Birthday Smash
In 2014 I sat at the dining room table in my past home in New York with an old acquaintance, when she said to me “you know what… you should get a dog!”. “I am not a dog person!”, I laughed - it was far too much responsibility than I thought I ever wanted. As a die hard equestrian, the only added responsibility I cared for at that time was a self sufficient cat. But a dog? Never!
Oh, how times have changed.
Shortly after, Louie - my first dog- joined my home. And then a very short time after, I went to school to become a professional groomer. And then I got another dog. And another. And another. The rest is history.
From my very first dog I made it a fun tradition to provide them a cake smash photoshoot in celebration of their 1st Birthday. You know you’ve seen the photos - the toddlers sitting in a cute outfit, happily slamming a decorated cake and smearing themselves in joy. As I have never cared to have children of my own, why not do this with my dogs? They are just as deserving!
Enjoy the below photos of the newest member of my family, Lupin. He is celebrating the big ONE on April 14th, and I couldn’t be more excited to have him in our home and a member of our family. He is named after the Harry Potter character, Professor Remus Lupin, who is so well known in the series for being a Werewolf. So it was only appropriate that for his photos he have an eerie, night vibe… even more appropriate that only 2 days after his birthday, we will be having a full moon. Aaayooo! (that is werewolf for goodnight!)
Make A Dog Friendly Birthday Cake:
Purchase a limited ingredient, plain cake. Ingredients should be limited to water, eggs, oil and cake mix.
Substitute the oil with natural apple sauce.
Frosting? Use whipped cream cheese! You can add a tablespoon of molasses to the cheese to help its spreadability.
Want more flavor? Smash up some bananas and add to the mixture before baking, or add into the “frosting”!
